1984 doğumlu şarkıcı,  kariyerine dini müzikler üzerine kurmak istemişti. Bu tarzda yayınladığı ‘Katy Hudson’ adlı albümü tutmayınca, 2000’li yıllarından bu amacından vazgeçti ve Los Angeles’a taşındı. Pop-rock tarzındaki ikinci albümündeki “I Kissed a Girl” ve “Hot n Cold” single’ları sayesinde 2008’de ünlendi. ABD Billboard Hot 100 listesinde bir numaraya kadar çıktı.

Forbes tarafından 2011, 2012 ve 2013 yıllarında “Müzikte En Çok Kazanan Kadınlar” listesine dahil edildi. Dünya genelinde 11 milyon albüm ve 81 milyon single satarak tüm zamanların en çok satan sanatçıları arasına girdi.

 

2010 yılında aktör Russel Brand ile beklenmedik bir evlilik yapan şarkıcı, iki yıl sonra yine beklenmedik bir şekilde boşandı. Perry biten evliliği sonrasında ‘duygusal bir travma’ yaşadığını söyledi. Bir röportajında, “Boşanmak rüyada ölmek gibiydi. Ben bir peri masalındaydım ve sonrasında gerçekler öyle olmadı” dedi.
